Prophecy and prophets can be controversial. Understanding them can be hard – about as hard to understand as the books of Ezekiel or Revelation!

But Ephesians 4 makes it clear that prophets are still vital to the full maturity of the Church (Read that Chapter today, if you’re wondering what to read).

In 2 Chronicles 20:20 King Jehosephat was facing a vast enemy in a turbulent time. In that moment he told his people “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”

Now, these days we get the “Trust God” bit, but “trusting prophets” – That’s a bit harder, as they can get it so wrong at times… And let’s be honest some of them are as weird as Elijah! Ha!

Why Trust Prophets and Prophecy?

Even though this an area of church life that can be immature, fail or be confusing at times (like any other area) I still believe we need to wrestle into  a place of the “good use” of the prophetic gifts.

Why? Read this:

“Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.”

That’s 1 Timothy 1:18-19, and in it the Apostle Paul encourages his young protégé to recall his prophecies in order to fight well and avoid spiritual shipwreck. Prophecies can help us move forward, avoiding catastrophe, positioning us to receive God’s grace for the race ahead.

I want that, how about you?

But also…

Paul also says in 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 “Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test all things. Hold fast to what is good.”

Did you get that? TEST ALL THINGS. Prove, examine, discern. Try them on for size. And do away with what doesn’t help.

Not everything that is written in these blogs, these next 14 days, will be for you. There are well over 1000 of you receiving the 14 daily emails.

So, you need to look out for what resonates with your spirit, stirs your heart, confirms what God is already stirring within. Look for confirmations – making the quiet whispers of wisdom in your own heart, more confidence and clear. That’s what we’re trying to do together.

Anything that seems confusing, creates shame or condemnation or is irrelevant to you – just say “Not for me” or “Not for me right now” and let it go! It’s the only way to approach prophecy to such a big, diverse group, gathered around the world.

These emails won’t include heaps of teaching – just the raw prophetic words. If you’d like to go deeper into interpreting prophecy, testing it and understand prophets, come join our Learning Community at THE TRIBE: https://jarrodcooper.net/#content-1

Ideally, this time of activation together, should awaken the prophetic in you, rather than be some horoscope for your future, with controlling predictions or false promises. You have to approach this as a springboard for your own relationship with God, not a replacement for it.

I’m hoping that as you read, you’ll have those moments of “I’d thought that!” or “I felt that!” and if the words in these emails confirm what God is saying to you, perhaps your confidence will grow, and you’ll start journalling prophetically for yourself. Nothing would delight me more!

Right, are you ready?

See you Sunday morning – early! It’s going to be powerful…
