The God who sees me

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” (Genesis 16:13 NIV)

Hagar was an outcast, wandering in a desert, caught in the wake of a moral maze. She was an Egyptian slave and mother of Abrams “son of unbelief”, Ishmael.

Used unnecessarily to give birth to Abrams heir, subsequently mistreated and despised, she found herself in a lonely, difficult, tangled circumstance.

Then God stepped in … and she gives Jehovah the Name: “You are the God who sees me”.

Realise today, it doesn’t matter who you are, what moral failure, what crippling trial, what confusing circumstance or hope-sapping depression you are in – God sees you.

He sees it all, knows it all, gathers all your tears in a jar and weeps alongside you.

Psalm 139 says “You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.” (Psalm 139:5 NIV). He surrounds you, covering your yesterday, shielding your today and stands waiting in your tomorrow.

Everything that seems confusing today, He promises to turn to good. Just keep trusting.

Like Hagar say to yourself today “I have seen the God who sees me”.

He’s right there, at your right hand… See him, perceive him, know him. He will never leave you, nor forsake you.

Thank you for being open to God. These are the very words and thoughts that are sustaining me. He sees me. He’s hemmed me in behind and before. What an amazing God we serve.
