You Are My Son

i-will-proclaim-the-decree-of-the-lord-he-said-to-me-you-are-my-son-today-i-have-become-your-father-psalm-2-7-niv84-1I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” (Psalm 2:7 NIV84)

Several years ago, at a very low point in my life, I had a vision.

In this vision I was standing on the peak of a mountain and God stood before me, a giant; His feet somewhere down in the valley; His head reaching way up into the clouds. He was built and dressed like an ancient warrior. As soon as I saw Him the verse “The Lord is a Warrior” filled my mind. (Ex 15:3)

In the vision God raised His mighty arms up and began to bellow so loudly the very mountain I stood on shook; “YOU ARE MY SON! YOU ARE MY SON!” He shouted.

As He proclaimed His Fatherhood of my life, everything shameful, empty and despairing in me began to crumble! Doubts and fears shook like weak pillars in an earthquake. His “decree” over me, was changing something in me; and here’s why:

He was not ashamed of me, even though I was ashamed of myself. He was quite happy to tell the whole world that I belonged to Him. He was somehow proud of me, and loved the real, scared, weak me. He was not disappointed in me, even though I was disappointed in myself!

But also, to see such might before me, and to think I have some of His spiritual DNA in me, made me realise; “In Him, I am not as weak as I think I am”. The hopefulness of faith, where “the weak say ‘I AM STRONG’ ” began to stir in me. Dignity began to flood my soul.

You see, you and I come from God. We are “born from above”. You are not just “legally”, his adopted child, because you believe a creed. No, His Spirit has actually birthed a New Creation – You are now “Born of God”; and “everyone Born of God, overcomes the world!” 1 John 5:4

Will you proclaim the decree of The Lord? “You are my son; today I have become your Father”? Put that decree on your lips throughout today – it will transform your peace, your confidence, your decisions.
